Getting Started

Install Extension

Install Test Companion from the Chrome Web Store

Configure Recording Key

  1. Click the extension settings icon 2. Navigate to Settings/Configurations 3. Enter your recording key from Test Companion dashboard 4. Enable screenshot capture if desired

Start Recording

  1. Click the Test Companion extension icon
  2. Add optional recording details:
    • Name: Identify your recording
    • Tag: Group related recordings
  3. Click “Start” to begin recording

Recording Options

Automatic Upload

With a configured recording key, your recordings will automatically:

  • Upload to your Test Companion account
  • Associate with your selected project
  • Be available for test case generation

Manual Download

You can also:

  • Download recordings locally
  • Save for later upload
  • Share with team members

Manual Capture

During or outside of recording:

  • Click the “Capture” button
  • Take full-page screenshots
  • Include in your recordings

Recording Details

Name Your Recording

Add descriptive names to easily identify recordings

Add Tags

Organize recordings by feature, component, or purpose

Setting names and tags helps organize recordings and makes them easier to find when generating test cases or bug reports.

Extension Settings

Configuration Options

  • Recording Key: Link to your Test Companion account
  • Screenshot Capture: Enable/disable automatic screenshots
  • Data Management: Clear local recording data

Clearing stored data will permanently delete all local recordings and settings. Make sure your recordings are uploaded or downloaded before clearing.

Best Practices

  1. Before Recording

    • Configure your recording key
    • Plan your test scenario
    • Use meaningful names and tags
  2. During Recording

    • Perform actions deliberately
    • Take additional screenshots when needed
    • Verify actions appear in Recent Actions
  3. After Recording

    • Review recorded steps
    • Download locally if needed
    • Verify successful upload
